Dr Ian Campbell MBE

United we stand, divided we fall? If ever there was a time for people to unite together to protect that which is valuable, it’s now. Not since the years of Mrs Thatcher have we seen such an onslaught by a Conservative government on that which is valuable to normal working men and women. Wherever we turn public services are being cut, too fast, and too far. Health, education, and policing are already straining under the pressure of reduced budgets and reduced frontline staff, at a time when the work is increasing. Social care and financial support for the most vulnerable in our society is being reduced with no regard for the children directly affected. And no-one, it seems, is prepared to resist. Employment continues to rise, and the economy continues to fall. But it needn’t be like this.

There is an alternative. An alternative that means less hardship, and more hope for the future. Less cuts, and more growth. The Labour party had invested heavily for 13 years to protect and develop our public services. And now they are being ground into the ground by the coalition government. So, who will oppose them? Not the Liberals, who are enthusiastic supporters of the government’s slash and burn policies; not the Conservatives who are relishing their new powers to break our society. Only you and I can stop them. And only by being united in one common purpose. To make sure that socialist ideals are once again at the heart of government. Locally, and nationally. For our children’s sake, there has to be a better way. Join us, unite with us, and start making a difference.
